PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty Course
The Diving Adelaide Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty Course will prepare you to safely and confidently dive on enriched air (up to 40%) and it will teach you how to take full advantage of the many advantages that diving on Nitrox has to offer! You will learn important things about diving on enriched gas mixes, such as the facts that mixes with a higher oxygen percentage get toxic at certain depths and that because there is less nitrogen in your mix, your body absorbs less nitrogen and your no decompression limits increase! Scary terms like CNS Convulsion and PPO2 will be explained, so you will get a good understanding of how to make longer dives or dive safer on enriched air!
The Enriched Air Diver Course schedule is very short:
Home study (1 - 2 hrs): Simply sign up for the course and start your eLearning today!
Practical session (15 min): Quick review session + practical (gas analysing). We can run this session at any time during weekday opening hours (Monday – Friday). Please make sure you book in a time slot beforehand.
What you need to know before you start the course:
- To participate in this course, you have to complete the PADI eLearning component.
- You have to be certified as an Open Water Diver or above to participate in this course
- This is a “theory only” course, there are no dives involved in the course
- A minimum age of 12 years applies. Every student under the age of 18 needs to have a parent or a guardian sign a consent form (available from the dive centre).
- The practical session includes a PADI Theory Quick Review, which will be easy to pass after completing the PADI eLearning for this course.

Where some dive schools still choose to teach the theory side of the learn to dive course in a traditional classroom setting, Diving Adelaide has chosen for the faster, cost-effective way of teaching the theory via online training. To us, the advantages of e-learning are clear:
- E-learning provides a single experience that accommodates the three distinct styles of auditory learners, visual learners and kinaesthetic learners, allowing for more efficient training.
- E-learning is self-paced. Advanced learners are allowed to speed through the theory, while others slow their own progress through content, eliminating frustration with themselves, their fellow learners and the course.
- E-learning has on-demand availability, which allows the student to complete the training conveniently at off-hours or from home (as a student you can log on and off to do parts of the theory as many times as you want) and doesn’t require the student to travel to training location.
- E-learning reduces the overall cost of the Open Water Diver Course for the dive centre, allowing us to lower the price of our “learn” to dive courses to an affordable level.
- E-Learning reduces the learning time on average by 40% to 60%, which means the overall time that you will be spending on the theory will most likely be only half of the time you would have spent in a classroom setting.
Practical Session
After you have completed the PADI Enriched Air Nitrox eLearning, it’s time for the practical. We will fill out the necessary paperwork, go through a quick review sessions and we will have a look at 2 cylinders that we will analyse to check the oxygen percentage of the enriched air in the cylinder.
You can book in for the practical session at any time that suits you during weekday (Tuesday to Friday) store opening hours.
Things to bring:
- Your PADI elearning results. Please print your results and bring them to the practical session.
- Optional: Your dive computer. If you have a dive computer, please bring it to the practical session. If you’re not sure how to set it to nitrox, please also bring (or download) the manual, so we can help you set it up for use with nitrox.
